LOW PLAY TABLE
A Starex bestseller since its launch, the Low Play Table offers boundless utility. Development of the LPT sought to fulfil a need for a relocatable ‘blank slate’ table with a large work/play surface - a need that was identified through consultation with Starex customers and observation of activities within ECE centres (specifically, the concept of ‘Lego Table’ after seeing children using a coffee table as such and constantly losing pieces off the sides).
The LPT’s inherent flexibility lends itself extremely well to dynamic ECE environments, and amongst its common uses are crafts, games, puzzles and building blocks. The absence of unnecessary protrusions and the rounded corners present minimal hazards to users and, along with the lockable castors, readily allows for relocation safely and easily.
MULTI-SHELVING
Unassuming and functionally basic at first glance, the Multi-Shelving product category is one I’m particularly proud of. This redevelopment of Starex’s standard shelving range consolidated 2 previous styles of shelving (flat and angled) into one product that can be adapted for both uses. The height-adjustable shelves can be reversed (to bring a lip to the front) and reinserted at an angled orientation for displaying books and other objects.
Scaled to maximize efficiency from CNC-machined ply sheets and carefully detailed for lightning-fast factory assembly, Multi-Shelving has formed a cornerstone of the Starex product offering, and virtually every order that leaves the factory has at least one of these units in it.
STEEL Tiered Shelving
Offering endless utility, this product line was carefully developed as more cost-effective alternative to an existing line that was comprised of parts cut from laminated ply. Maximisation of efficiency was achieved via prioritisation of factory throughput; this product can be constructed in half the time as the original through the use of engineering jigs and standardised precut steel parts. Moreover, it offers greater customisability in both laminate finishes and powdercoat colours. An outwardly simple design, it nevertheless involved intensive reiteration to resolve into a refined and reliable offering.
Art Storage
Purpose-built for art-based activities, this all-in-one product addresses a need that was identified for a means of consolidating all arts & crafts supplies in one handy unit that can be relocated as needed. Scaled for easy access by its young users, Art Storage units have proven a hit in centres, allowing for child agency to retrieve the tools and supplies that they need, when and where they want them.
